Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday January 16. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues to be seen along Halderson Road
south of Fern Ridge Reservior. Take Highway 126 west from Eugene. Turn
south onto Nelson Road. Continue to the T junction with Contrell Road. Turn
right onto the gravel road and continue to Halderson Road. Drive south on
Halderson to the first sharp turn. The bird is in that area.

Another YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER is being seen south of Klamath Falls at
the base of Stukel Mountain. It is found along Hill Road about a half mile
south of Dehlinger Lane.

The COMMON GRACKLE continues to be seen among the blackbird flocks along
the Tumalo/Deschutes Highway east of Tumalo.

The female KING EIDER is still being seen below the highway bridge at
Yaquina Bay. The YELLOW-BILLED LOON is also in the area and is being seen
more regularly recently. OLDSQUAWS are also in the area, and a RED
PHALAROPE was near the end of the North Jetty January 11. The PALM WARBLERS
are still along the nature trail at the Marine Science Center.

An adult gray phased GYRFALCON was observed at Agate Beach north of Newport
January 12. That day another adult was along Lower River Road north of
Vancouver, Washington. Still another was seen January 13 at the junction of
Highway 34 and Oakville Road, east of Corvallis. This may be the same bird
that was at Finley NWR earlier in the week.

An EMPEROR GOOSE was on Sauvie Island January 15 along Reeder Road at mile
post 6, north of the junction of Gillahan and Reeder Roads. The Lewis and
Clark State Park EMPEROR GOOSE is still being seen along the Sandy River
east of Portland.

On January 11 a TRUMPETER SWAN and a male BLUE-WINGED TEAL were along Fenk
Road west of Tillamook. That day a male CINNAMON TEAL was seen at Bayocean.

On January 15 three bright SNOWY OWLS were about the shorebird flats at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River. The dark Forest Grove bird continues to
be seen at the trailer court at the end of Mountain View Lane. Another
SNOWY OWL appeared January 11 along Farmer Road east of Baskett Slough NWR.
Drive west from Salem on Highway 22. Turn right onto Highway 99W and drive
about a mile. Turn right onto Farmer Road and drive to the railroad tracks.
The bird is in that area.

An OLDSQUAW and a REDHEAD were along Lower River Road north of Vancouver
January 11. The WHITE PELICAN was seen again on Sauvie Island January 12.
It, or another was at Fern Ridge Reservior near Eugene that afternoon.

The GREAT GRAY OWL is still being seen at Silver Falls State park east of
Salem. Take Highway 22 east from Salem to the Silver Falls turnoff. Follow
the signs to the State park. At the park turn left onto Silver Ridge Road
and drive about two miles. The bird is in this area. This owl is rather
wary, so don't push it and remain on the roadway. Check the trees on both
sides of the road.

The MOCKINGBIRD is still being seen around Greenwood and Alta Vista Streets
in north Corvallis. The CATBIRD is also regularly seen near 25th and Linnan
streets, also in north Corvallis. The BLACK PHOEBE is still about the
Peoria Bible Church southeast of Corvallis.

The CATTLE EGRET is still tending sheep at Alvodore, northwest of Eugene.
On January 11, a HERMIT WARBLER was along the Woodpecker Trail in Finley
NWR.

Thats it for this week.
