Hi!

This is Dean's class reporting about the Sunday Birding trip. Some
people went owling that morning, but had no luck. Our teacher has been
able to call screech owls in this area recently. We saw and heard a
Barred Owl around our school last month. Nothing lately.

Then we drove up to the flats and it was very successful. We saw 166 Raptors
and 10 species of Raptors (both records for class field trips the last
five years). We saw a PRFA on Skagit Flats and a
couple snowies on the Samish Flats. We also saw a PEFA hitting a SEOW
to get its food in the Skagit Flats. There will be another sunday
birding trip on Feb. 2nd. If anybody has hot spots that they want to share
with us, send e-mail. Also if anybody wants the count of raptors of
these Raptor trips from the last five years, let us know. We will send you
a copy.

We recently had our binoculors fixed so they would work for the
birding trip. We went to a place called "Close Scientific Instruments,"
the man was very good and we would recommend his services to anyone.
The phone number is 728-2121, and the address is 2316 4th Seattle WA. Free
advertising. We also could use some binoculars if anyone has an extra pair
lying around, send us an e-mail.

We also saw an Immature Cooper's hawk COHA fly over and perch in a
tree by the school. We were able to get the scope on it and the entire
class saw it. Nice gift on this beauiful day. We also took a count of
birds and took field notes on the creek area at our school. We saw pussy
willows on a small tree in the creek.

Bye!
