I recently bought some Chinese made 8X23 compact binoculars for 15.00. I
thought they'd be OK for throwing in the glove compartment as a spare. My
wife tried them out and loved them. I must say that to my old eyes they
compare quite favorably with some very expensive brands. I showed them to a
few friends and everyone wanted a pair, so I went back and bought 4 more and
got a better deal ($12.00/pair). They all work fine and also come in 10
power. The point is that you don't have to give up a hundred dollar pair of
shoes to have workable binoculars. I suspect if someone bought a quantity
of these things you could get them for under $10.00. What kid couldn't
persuade parents to fork over $10.00?
