Hi Tweets,

the Everett Christmas Bird Count on January 5th recorded 121 species, the
same total as last year. Highlights included a lingering Sora near
Marysville, a Harris's Sparrow at the Everett Sewage Lagoons, a Bittern,
15 Black Turnstones and 28 owls of six species. With 6 owl and two rail
species recorded, the counters deserve some sort of gold star for effort
on those tough-to-get birds. Numbers were down from last year across the
board, except for a huge invasion of Robins and Varied Thrushes. The big
Christmas snow drove them in, and they stuck around to be counted a week
later.

A Bobwhite seen count day was dropped from the list due to overwhelming
evidence suggesting it was a recent escape.

Happy Perusing,
