Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday January 23. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

Two male TUFTED DUCKS were found January 19 among an unusually large flock
of diving ducks on Sauvie Island. Take Reeder Road to the east side of the
Island. At the county line park at the entrance to Willow Bar, then walk
across the road to scope the large lake at the opening in the hedges. Both
the county line and Willow Bar are well marked.

A BLUE JAY is now coming to a feeder in Enterprise in northeastern Oregon.

The KING EIDER and the YELLOW-BILLED LOON continue to be seen in Yaquina
Bay between the Highway 101 bridge and the green buoy to the west. The
birds are best observed from the south jetty, but a scope is usually
needed. OLDSQUAWS and HARLEQUIN DUCKS are regularly seen in the same area.
Up to six ROCK SANDPIPERS are still being seen near the gift shop at Depoe
Bay.

The only consistent SNOWY OWLS now being seen in Oregon are at the South
Jetty of the Columbia River. One bird was seen January 15 west of Junction
City in Lane County but it soon moved on. Another was reported from near
Rocky Point on the west side of Upper Klamath Lake January 17, but it could
not be relocated. The Mountain View Lane bird in Forest Grove is elusive,
but is still in the area.

An immature RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Ridgefield NWR January 18. Waterfowl
and gulls are becoming more regular on Sauvie Island-Ridgefield since the
end of hunting season. A green collared TRUMPETER SWAN is now along Sauvie
Island Road at a large pond just south of Lucy Reeder Road on the west side
of the Island. Six GREAT EGRETS were in Scappoose Bottoms January 19.

An OSPREY was reported January 21 at Roslyn Lake near Sandy. A pair of
BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were at the Mollala Sewage Ponds January 22.

The MOCKINGBIRD continues to be seen in the neighborhood of Alta Vista and
Greenwood Place. The CATBIRD is hard to find but is still being seen near
25th and Linnen Streets. Both areas are in north Corvallis. The BLACK
PHOEBE continues to be seen at the Peoria Bible Church southeast of
Corvallis.

On January 20 four LAPLAND LONGSPURS were reported from Marys Peak in the
Coast Range southwest of Corvallis. The two PYGMY OWLS continue to be seen
near the parking lot at the top.

The WHITE PELICAN first seen January 12 continues to be found on Kirk Pond,
west of Eugene, near Fern Ridge Reservoir. The HARRIS' SPARROW continues to
visit Barbara Combs feeders in Eugene. If interested in seeing this bird
contact Barbara at 541-689-6660.

Another HARRIS' SPARROW is coming to a feeder in Tygh Valley in Wasco County.

Thats it for this week.
