Dannie Carsen was puzzled to see a Kestrel eating road kill.

In my prior life, ca late '70's, I lived in the Watergate condominiums on the
Emeryville peninsula of San Francisco Bay. Early every morning, as I went to
work, I would observe Kestrels eating roadkill in the gutters of the road facing
the condos. There were two kinds of critter carcasses of interest to them: Large
insects and small mice, both probably killed at night by cars.
