After meeting so many birders from south of the border yesterday I thought
posting the local alert message might be of interest.

This is the Vancouver, B.C. Bird Alert for Saturday, January 25th, 8:00 A.M.
Sunday update.

Featured birds are COMMON EIDER, and TUFTED DUCK.

Sightings for Saturday, January 25th
The COMMON EIDER was observed at its recent offshore location near the
open air pool at Kits Beach and later in the day at the east end of Jericho
Beach.

TWO TUFTED DUCKS were sighted on Stanley Parks Lost Lagoon. The male
close to shore at the mouth of the channel leading to the stone bridge at the
west end of the lagoon and a female near the east end of the lagoon.

A CINNAMON TEAL was seen on the north west pond at Iona.

At the Reifel Refuge were 5 BLACK CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, 3
NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS, and a SWAMP SPARROW.

TWO SNOWY OWLS were reported at the foot of 64th and 3 ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWKS in the same general area.

Friday, January 24th
The COMMON EIDER was seen offshore Kits Beach.

At the foot of 64th was a juvenile PEREGRINE FALCON.

Thursday, January 23rd

TWO PEREGRINES were seen near the foot of 64th.

Further west at the Beach Grove Lagoon were 2 GREATER YELLOW-LEGS.

Seen near the intersection of Burrard and 2nd in Vancouver were 2 CRESTED
MYNAS.

Wednesday, January 22nd
The COMMON EIDER was again at its usual location offshore from the pool at
Kits Beach.

A GLAUCOUS GULL was observed along with several WESTERN GULLS at a
gull roost on the northside of Burnside near 88th.

An unusual sighting for this time of year was a SPOTTED SANDPIPER at Kates
Park in North Vancouver at the base of the boat launch.

A CLARKS GREBE was seen with Westerns along Inglis Rd. near the road to
the Coast Guard Station on Sea Island.

A second TUFTED DUCK, an immature bird, was located on Lost Lagoon. The
male TUFTED DUCK was also present.

In an out of town sighting, there is a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK near the town
of Sequim Washington. For further details call the Washington Bird Box at 206-

Tuesday, January 21st
The COMMON EIDER was again at its usual location off Kits Beach. The bird
appears to be in the first stages of molting.

Three CRESTED MYNAS were observed perched on wires near the Safeway
on Granville north of 70th.

An adult GLAUCOUS GULL was observed in a large roost of gulls on 68th
souht of River Rd.

The PRAIRIE FALCON was seen in the poplars at Brunswick Point.
