On January 19, Dennis Rockwell observed a male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER on the
Columbia River off Two Rivers Park and a male EURASIAN WIGEON on the park
lawn. This is not the wigeon found earlier in the park which was a hybrid
American/Eurasian Wigeon.

Also on the 19th, Nancy and Bill LaFramboise reported 5 YELLOW-HEADED
BLACKBIRDS in a large flock of Red-winged and Brewer's Blackbirds along
Badger Road. The following day, Nancy found 2 HARRIS' SPARROWS at their
Richland feeder. To make arrangements to see these birds, call Bill or
Nancy at 627-3695.

This is apparently a Harris' Sparrow year in that on January 21, Marilyn
Gray of Washtucna reported up to 3 HARRIS' SPARROWS at her feeder over the
period December 8 to January 17.

Also on January 21, I birded in WE Johnson Park near Duportail Street in
Richland and among the more common birds, I was very pleased to find 2
NORTHERN GOSHAWKS, an adult and an immature.

Tony Greager noted a very vocal "MYRTLE" WARBLER, rather uncommon in our
area, in the Finley Middle School Parking lot on January 23. While on
January 26, he observed a GOLDEN EAGLE hunting in Badger Canyon and an adult
MERLIN near Twin Bridges in West Richland.

4 MEW GULLS, 3 adult and 1 immature, rested on the ice in the Two Rivers
Park Lagoon on January 24 as reported by Dennis Rockwell.

On January 27, Mary Nowakowski(?) reported a VARIED THRUSH in her Richland yard.
Ruth Fischer and Nancy LaFramboise found a NORTHERN SHRIKE and a MERLIN
along Badger Road on January 27.

Lastly, Greg ? reported an adult Bald Eagle flying around WSU in North
Richland on both January 25 and 26.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
