I have found Manito to be fairly sterile for birding, especially in
winter. The ponds always offer the typical Mallards, a few domestic
X's, and those nasty (but pretty!) Mute Swans. The trees around the
park usually have some Pygmy and Red-breasted Nuthatches and LOTS of
squirrels.
However, the trails along the Little Spokane River are usually good places to
visit, so is the Bowl and Pitcher ( Riverside State Park ). Dishman
Hills is another excellent place...
If you are willing to drive a little, I would suggest Turnbull NWR (as
previously mentioned) or Lake Coeur d'Alene.
Are you looking to see some particular species?? I might be able to
offer you some more ideas or more exact locations...
