My family recently spent the weekend at Fort Worden State Park
and Conference Center by Port Townsend. They have old officer's
quarters for lodging and camping sites right on Puget Sound.

After reviewing Birder's Guide to Washington, I anticipated
viewing a number of different birds:

Harlequin Ducks
Rhinoceros Auklets
Peregrine Falcon
Scoters
Grebes
Loons
Ducks
Geese
Shorebirds

Unfortunately, I did not see any of the above but did view:

American Crows
White-crowned Sparrows
House Sparrows
Barn Swallows
Hummingbird (sp?)
Pigeon Guillemots (nesting under dock)
European Starlings (housed in about every chimney on base)
Rock Doves
American Robins
Bald Eagle (there is a nesting pair)

This is a beautiful area for easy hiking, beach combing, and
bird watching.
