Wednesday Jetty Count for
the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
3 July 1997 0850 to 0950

Tide: incoming
Weather: clear
Wind southwest at 1-5mph; Temp 60F

Method: One hour (timed) station count 100m west of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: Most notable is the arrival of CASSIN'S AUKLET. There were no definable
movements for birds flying. The CLIFF SWALLOWS were head out to sea along the
jetty.

Mammal Notes: Three large male NORTHERN SEALIONS and at least 15 small(females?)
were at the end of the jetty. A HARBOR PORPOISE swam through on the ocean side
of the jetty.
