A reminder (and more info)to all folks that indicated an interest in the
ecology workshops in the Okanogan. The next workshop will be July
24-25-topic boreal ecology, location thirty mile meadows. This is meant to
introduce participants to the unique ecology of that area, both forest and
wetlands systems. On the 25(PM)-27, there will be a workshop at the same
location on some of the ongoing research projects in the area. These will
include soils and insect, stream macroinvertebrates, plant succession post
fire, and (yes) birds. Dave Rudholm (who runs the Twisp MAPS station) will
set up some mist nets to demonstrate bird handling and banding, as well as
conducting point counts. More info on the other projects available upon
request.
If you are interested in participating, please let me know by July
16 so that I can get maps and info to you. Fees for the workshop cover
your Okanogan National Forest user fee and food(we provide supper and
breakfast).
For folks interested in day hikes in the Thunder fire-we are scheduling
one for Sept 20-21.
