Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday July 3. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

An OLDSQUAW was sitting on the beach at the South Jetty of the Siuslaw
River June 28. It moved to the ocean and disappeared offshore. On July 1
six ELEGANT TERNS were at the jetty. Seven RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were also
there that day.

Nesting seabirds along the coast are having poor success again this year.
Many of these birds are scattering and showing up in unexpected locations.
On July 3 three MARBLED MURRELETS and eight CASSIN'S AUKLETS were off the
South Jetty of the Columbia River.

An adult FRANKLIN'S GULL was on the east side of Sauvie Island June 30. A
RED-EYED VIREO was singing June 25 in the cottonwoods at the Smith/Bybee
Lake Wildlife Area in North Portland. Two CASPIAN TERNS were at Oaks Bottom
in southeast Portland June 26, and two were at Creekside Marsh in Beaverton
June 30.

On June 30 a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER was seen at Blount Road Marsh near
Canby. A BARN OWL, two calling BOBWHITE, and an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER
were at Powell Butte Park near Gresham June 29. Nesting WESTERN KINGBIRDS
are being watched near Dallas and near Ankeny NWR.

A WHITE-TAILED KITE, five REDHEADS, and a GADWALL were at the end of Royal
Avenue at Fern Ridge Reservoir June 26. An apparent hybrid LAZULI X INDIGO
BUNTING was reported March 28 at Mt. Pisgua, near Eugene. A male SOLITARY
and a female RED-EYED VIREO are paired and nesting at Jasper Park southeast
of Eugene. A good sized colony of RED-EYED VIREOS has nested in the park
for many years.

A few GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES were found over the past week-end at the
edge of the parking lot at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. When entering the
parking area drive straight ahead into the gravel lot and check the edges
of the snow, especially near the stone building there.

A REDSTART was observed June 28 along Highway 26 at Beaver Creek near the
north end of the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. This is the same area
where Catbirds and Northern Waterthrushes have been reported in the past.

A COMMON LOON was on Timothy Lake June 28. One was on Rock Creek Reservoir
near Wamic June 26. A CATBIRD was at Rock Creek Reservoir the next day.
