I noted the comment on the Bird Box wondering about the Arctic terns in
Everett. The terns were only around for a couple of days about ten days
ago and then they disappeared. There were a number of common terns
around as well.

Purple martins were going in and out of the 5th nest box from the
channel on the pilings along the 10th Street boat dock at the Everett
waterfront last weekend.

The 4th of July fireworks were shot off from a barge right at the end of
the pilings not far from the osprey nest in the log rafting area along
the Everett waterfront. As a matter of fact the barge was not that far
from the osprey nest along Jetty Island as well. I had a horrible
evening wondering how the osprey would fare with the horrendous noise
and lights so close to them. I checked the next morning and could see
at least one young still in the nest with both adults nearby at the log
rafting area, and I could see an adult on the Jetty Island nest. It was
a relief, but I plan to report this to the Department of Fish and
Wildlife so they can try to get the fireworks out of that area next
year.
