Wind west at 5-10mph; Temp 60F

Method: One hour (timed) station count 100m west of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: A strong northward movement of COMMON MURRES was evident today with
about 80% of numbers seen moving in large flocks. At about 0920 a flock of 50
shorebirds appeared at the end of the jetty, they swirled around once and
appeared to light on the ocean at one point. I am assuming based on behavior
and color that these were RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, though I saw them from some
distance. I saw SOOTY SHEARWATER on to occasions separated by about 40 minutes.
I took these to be the same individual, as they were seen in the same genearl
area. About 75 BROWN PELICANS in 3 big groups flew by as I was walking out
to my observation site. They were no evident on the beach, river or ocean
during the official timed period.

Mammal notes: The NORTHERN SEALIONS seen last week are still at the end of the
jetty. A HARBOR SEAL was swimming on the ocean side of the jetty.
