Sightings for Sunday, July 13th

The over wintering COMMON EIDER was relocated again today off the end of
the Iona south jetty. The bird was there for most of the afternoon as close
as 2 meters from shore. Also seen from the jetty were 5 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS and 10 COMMON LOON. From the sewage ponds amongst the large
numbers of WESTERNS were 5 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER. A PEREGRINE was also
observed in the area.

The Reifel Refuge also had large numbers of shorebirds with 2 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS sighted. Also at Reifel were 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 1 WILSON'S
PHALAROPE, a GREEN HERON and 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS.

On Boundary Bay at the end of 112th was a WHIMBREL.

At Campbell Valley Park 4 BARRED OWLS, 1 adult and 3 juveniles were seen.

In the south Abbotsford area 2 HOUSE WRENS, 4 TURKEY VULTURES and 2 LAZULI
BUNTINGS were observed.

Saturday, July 12th

A single WILSON'S PHALAROPE was present on the NW sewage pond at Iona.

There was a COMMON NIGHTHAWK observed over Coal Harbour in the early
morning.

Friday, July 11th

The BLACK PHOEBE was seen by many observers for most of the day in bushes
on the west side of the NW sewage lagoon at Iona. Also here were 2 WILSON'S
PHALAROPES.

A BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD was reported visiting a feeder near Princeton,
B.C.

A single BRANT and 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were at their usual location off
the Tsawwassen Jetty.

Five SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were reported near the foot of 12th St. in
Tsawwassen.

Thursday, July 10th

The BLACK PHOEBE was sighted Iona.

A breeding plumage HORNED PUFFIN was observed off Green Point Campgrounds,
Long Beach National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

In Pitt Meadows 2.2 km south of Grant Narrows were 4 GRAY CATBIRDS, a
possible family group, 1 BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS. Another
GRAY CATBIRD and BULLOCK'S ORIOLE were at the head of the Nature Dike at
Grant Narrows R.P. Also 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen along Neaves Rd. N.
of the Swaneeset Golf Course.
