Tweeters;
I just spent a great weekend in Port Townsend, Hurricane Ridge but the
birding surprise was Dyes Bay in Silverdale. I haven't seen any postings
from the area on tweeters recently so I'm not sure how many people
regularly bird the area. Yesterday we saw Purple Martin, probably about 6
birds maybe more nesting in the old pilings in the bay directly in front
of Waterfront Park. Another pair were on pilings off the mouth of Clear
Creek just to the left of the Silverdale Coast Hotel. Also using the bay
were about 6 Greater Yellowlegs, a Short-billed Dowitcher, Western
Sandpipers, an Osrpey, Caspian Terns and a lone White-winged Scoter
(male) in the bay. Quite the variety in species and definitely worth the
stop for anyone else who might be driving through the area.
