At Lost Lake, in northeastern Okanogan Co., there was a pair of Common
Loons with two 3/4 grown young on 14 July. Also lots of Black Terns. It's a
fairly busy lake, with several camps, a campground, and quite a few
visitors, including people in boats, a credit to the loons that they
brought off two young there. They were performing distractions displays for
a couple of kids on inner tubes floating near them while we watched. Lots
of calling, very exciting.

This is the second Okanogan Co. lake on which I've found loons nesting.
When I look at the map and see all the lakes in northeastern WA, some of
them relatively inaccessible to people, I have a feeling there may be a lot
more breeding pairs of loons in the state than we know about.
