Gail, sounds like you are having a fun time on this
project. I was going to post about juvenal/adult
plumage but somebody beat me to it. I volunteer
band with Fish and Wildlife in the Anchorage area
and we are now catching lots of "kid" birds. Today
we got two juveniles and an adult Swainson's in
the same net (family group?) and I was surprised
at how obvious the buffy tips on the juvenile's back
feathers were. Still don't know if they would be
visible at birdwatching distance.

I didn't know one could get hawks to respond to
taped calls. Has anyone in your project been
having luck with that?
