Visits from Common Nighthawk, I presume.
Since I posted 'where are the nighthawks, and where are they going, few
days ago:

Just about dinner time, 700 pm today heard lots of chatter and took the
field guide outside to see ..
Yes, the Nighthawks are here (central Virginia ).

Nice smooth glides, like a hawk. Sort of spiralling pattern with
swooping dive here and there seem characteristic. Thought I had less
than a dozen as they played about in a 'fairly static region immediately
above.

Then as that group passed on, going southerly, another group took their
place following the same acrobatics'. Probably watched total number of
35 plus, within that 20 or so minutes.

Hearing their nasal chattering as I sit writing this, for their swoops
are fairly close to ground level, or housetops anyway.
