Before today's sightings a message about a very important public meeting
about the unrestricting and/or modifying of the current dog leash restraint
laws in the Vancouver Parks System. It will take place Monday, July 21st at
the Judge McGill Theatre in the Robson Square Conference Centre. The
meeting starts at 7:00 P.M. with speaker sign up at 6:00 P.M.

The Vancouver Dog Owners Association is proposing several designated off
leash areas, dogs be permitted off leash in ANY park area before 9:00 A.M.,
and designated beach areas for dogs to swim. The VNHS is strongly opposed
to the off leash before 9:00 A.M. and has strongly recommended much thought
be taken into selecting any designated off leash areas.

It cannot be stressed enough the impact these changes would have our
already beleaguered park wildlife. Please plan to attend or phone, fax or

Sightings for Wednesday, July 16th

The COMMON EIDER was again present at the tip of the Iona South Jetty. A
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was seen on the North Iona Jetty.

At the Reifel Refuge were a breeding plummage RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 2
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, and 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

Sighted from the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty were 2 BRANT, 11 CASPIAN TERN and 4
BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Another 9 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were recorded from the Grebe and Bird Islets
off West Vancouver.

The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was again seen with Canada's on False
Creek.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen over the Mary Hill area of Port Coquitlam.

Tuesday, July 15th

The COMMON EIDER, 6 COMMON TERNS, a breeding plummage OLDSQUAW, 5
RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 3 breeding plummage RED-THROATED LOON, and a
CANVASBACK were recorded off the Iona South Jetty.

The Tsawwassen Jetty was the location for 3 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and on
from the Tsawwassen to Nanaimo Ferry sailing a COMMON MURRE was seen.

Monday, July 14th

A majority of the birds from Tuesday Iona South Jetty report were present
in addition to I LESSER and 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS on the Iona Ponds.

Sightings for Sunday, July 13th

The Reifel Refuge also had large numbers of shorebirds with 2 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS sighted. Also at Reifel were 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 1 WILSON'S
PHALAROPE, a GREEN HERON and 2 EASTERN KINGBIRDS.

On Boundary Bay at the end of 112th was a WHIMBREL.

At Campbell Valley Park 4 BARRED OWLS, 1 adult and 3 juveniles were seen.

In the south Abbotsford area 2 HOUSE WRENS, 4 TURKEY VULTURES and 2 LAZULI
BUNTINGS were observed.
