Featured birds this evening are out of town HOODED ORIOLE and HORNED
PUFFIN

There will be an important message after tonight's sightings.

Sightings for Saturday, July 19th

A HOODED ORIOLE was reported visiting a feeder at 3375 Anchorage Ave. in
Victoria. The home owner will not be allowing people on the property Sunday but
may allow people on Monday. This will be updated on this evenings alert.

Also on Vancouver Island west coast is a HORNED PUFFIN. Anyone interested
in seeing this bird should contact either Richard at 250-725-2132 or Adrian Dorst
at 250-725-1243. The bird is on an off shore Island assessible only by boat.

At Colony Farm were a GRAY CATBIRD, GREEN HERON, 4 BULLOCK'S
ORIOLES and an OSPREY.

Another OSPREY and an imm PEREGRINE were observed NW of Coquitlam's
Lougheed Mall.

On the NW pond at Iona was a PECTORAL SANDPIPER.

A LAZULI BUNTING was sighted at the Premier Street Landfill site in North
Vancouver.

Friday, July 18th

A MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was seen near the Pacific Sands Resort on
the west coast of Vancouver Island.

In a late report the COMMON EIDER was again located at the end of the Iona S.
Jetty along with 2 BAIRD SANDPIPERS.


Seen at from the Tsawwassen to Nanaimo ferry sailing were a POMARINE
JAEGER, RED-THROATED, and a COMMON LOON.

Two OSPREY were observed near Lafarge Lake in Coquitlam.

On a survey of the Bird & Grebe Islets off West Vancouver were 5 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS and 3 BLACK TURNSTONES.

At the Reifel Refuge were 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and a nesting pair of
EASTERN KINGBIRDS.

Thursday, July 17th

>From Pitt Meadows 2.2 km south of Grant Narrows were 2 EASTERN
KINGBIRDS and a GRAY CATBIRD.

The COMMON EIDER continued at the end of the Iona South Jetty along with 3
CASPAIN TERNS.

In North Vancouver's Inter River Park was the LAZULI/INDIGO BUNTING
HYBRID.

At Maplewood were 2 LAZULI BUNTINGS.

Wednesday, July 16th

The COMMON EIDER was seen at the tip of the Iona South Jetty. A
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER was seen on the North Iona Jetty.

At the Reifel Refuge were a breeding plummage RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, 2
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, and 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.

Sighted from the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty were 2 BRANT, 11 CASPIAN TERN
and 4 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS.

Another 9 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS were recorded from the Grebe and Bird
Islets off West Vancouver.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen with Canada's on False
Creek.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen over the Mary Hill area of Port Coquitlam.

A very important public meeting about the unrestricting and/or modifying of the
current dog leash restraint laws in the Vancouver Parks System takes place
tomorrow, Monday, July 21st at the Judge McGill Theatre in the Robson Square
Conference Centre starting at 7:00 P.M. Speaker sign up will start at 6:00 P.M.

The Vancouver Dog Owners Association is proposing several designated off
leash areas, dogs be permitted off leash in ANY park area before 9:00 A.M., and
designated beach areas for dogs to swim. The VNHS is strongly opposed to the
off leash before 9:00 A.M. and has strongly recommended much thought be
taken into selecting any designated off leash areas.

It cannot be stressed enough the impact these changes would have our already
beleaguered park wildlife. Please plan to attend or phone, fax or write your
