Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday July 24. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

The BLUE GROSBEAKS near Brogen in Malheur County continue to be seen. The
male was still carrying food to its supposed young July 21.

Two male OVENBIRDS are now at Odessa Campground at the south end of Upper
Klamath Lake. Look for them around the boat ramp.

A female CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER with a brood patch was netted and banded
July 14 near Lake of the Woods Campground along Highway 140 between Medford
and Klamath Falls.

A breeding plumaged RED-NECKED STINT was at the South Jetty of the Columbia
River at high tide July 19. It has not been relocated.

A bright male INDIGO BUNTING was along David Hill Road near Forest Grove
July 20.

ELEGANT TERNS are now being seen all along the Oregon Coast and well into
Washington. The largest numbers seen so far were 56 at the Necanicum River
mouth at Seaside July 20, and 125 at Ocean Shores, Washington. Three ARCTIC
TERNS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia July 18.

The shorebird migration continues. Two WILLETS were at New River, south of
Bandon and one was at Tillamook Bay July 22. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at
New River July 22. Many RUDDY TURNSTONES are now being reported along the
coast. On July 20, 400 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 1500 LEAST, and 2500 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS were at Bandon. On July 21, 131 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were on
Clatsop Beach. An amazing 4500 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Leadbetter
Point, Washington July 19.

Small numbers of SOOTY SHEARWATERS are being seen along the coast now. On
July 17 a PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATER was seen off Ecola State Park. A VESPER
SPARROW was on Bayocean Spit at Tillamook Bay July 19. A pure white swallow
is now being seen along the Clackamas River above Gladstone. A family of
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS was seen during the week at Baskett Slough NWR.
Four GREAT EGRETS are now on the refuge. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was in
Salem's Bush Park July 17. A singing CATBIRD was on the west side of the
Cascade Crest near Oakridge July 17.

On July 18 two BREWER'S SPARROWS were netted near Lower Table Rock in the
Rogue Valley. One had a brood patch. Nearby, an adult GRASSHOPPER SPARROW
was observed feeding a fledgling. On July 20 two immature GREAT GRAY OWLS
were seen in the Slate City area northeast of Ashland.

On July 23 several singing territorial WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were
observed at Woodward Campground and Target Meadows, north of Tollgate in
northeastern Oregon.
