This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

Mike and MerryLynn Denny observed a single, first-year, male INDIGO
BUNTING east of Milton-Freewater, OR on July 5. From the WA - OR
border, head east on Stateline Road about 5 miles to Powerline Road.
Turn right (south) and follow Powerline to its intersection with Birch
Creek Road. Turn left (east) on Birch Creek Road and follow it into the
incredible riparian habitat. The bird was in the upper portions of Birch
Creek. OR DeLorme 86, A-3.5.

Russ Roundy reports 3 female HARLEQUIN DUCKS in the upper portion
of the St. Joe River drainage in northern Idaho. These birds were
loafing on rocks in the St. Joe about 6 miles east of where the road
comes over from St. Regis, MT, near Gold Creek.

John and Amy Roberson found a nest of what they think were PRAIRIE
FALCONS just southwest of Pullman, WA, and in the same locale, they
definitely found a nest of BARN OWLS with 3 chicks on Sunday, July
13. Both species were nesting in the cliff along the west side of
Steptoe Canyon Road near milepost 5.2. From Colton, WA, south of
Pullman along US 195, take Rimrock Road south from Colton to
Steptoe Canyon Road. Along Steptoe Canyon Road, Schlee Road
heads east. Along Schlee Road the Robersons saw BEWICK'S WREN,
GRAY CATBIRD, and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. WA DeLorme 57,
D-7 near the bottom of the page.

Dan and Ila Svingen saw a MARBLED GODWIT, a LEAST SANDPIPER,
an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, and 3 WESTERN SANDPIPERS today,
July 18, at Mann Lake just east of Lewiston, ID. Remember that East
Main Street is closed for construction so you'll have to travel through
town. Alternate route is as follows: enter Lewiston from the north on
US 12 and cross the Clearwater River. At the first traffic light, head
up the hill on 21st Street. Keep heading up hill, past the Wal-Mart
where 21st Street becomes Thain. Stay on Thain until Thain goes
from 4 lanes to 2. Just as Thain curves right, turn left onto Powers
Avenue. Continue straight on Powers Avenue a few miles until you
reach the reservoir. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

Dan and Ila also saw a single RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and a single
WILSON'S PHALAROPE at the Genesee, ID sewage pond today. To
get to the pond, turn east off US 95 at milepost 329.8 onto Cow
Creek Road, about 0.5 mile south of the main turn-off to Genesee.
Follow Cow Creek Road about 0.5 mile to the pond. ID DeLorme 58,
C-1

Good birding!
