One more source of chickadee language interpretation is Lang Elliot's
"Know Your Bird Sounds" series of cassettes or CD's. (Their # is
800-336-5666, or try your library.) The thing I like about these
recordings, is that even though they are limited to the most common
species, all the different sounds of each species are explored, as
opposed to just their "songs." Narration explains the purpose behind
each sound. This series would be great for those just beginning to learn
bird sounds.
Another drawback, however, is the eastern U.S. orientation. That bias
is present in many bird sound and i.d. tools and it frustrates me.
