While browsing through wood working books with my son, we have found
several plans for winter shelters, usually designed for chickadees.
These are boxlike structures with small openings, with roosts inside for
the birds. The idea is that these replace rare natural cavities during
foul weather. Has anyone in tweeterland tried one of these boxes? If
so, do any birds use them, and what kind? While on this subject, what
about bat and butterfly shelters?
