I had a delightful time eating dinner out on my deck and watching the birds
come to the bird bath. The time was about 1:30-2:30pm. I have an aluminum
garbage can cover turned upside down and placed in the crotch of a Japanese
Lace Leaf Maple. I have installed a "leaf mister" that sprays onto the
leaves and then drips down into the bird bath. The bath was particularly
busy. I had my first recorded Bullock's Oriole in my backyard. It was a
female that came in and took a bath. A half-hour later it, or another one,
came back for another bath. I also watched it eating one of the plums in one
of our many plum trees. A male Western Tanager also showed up for a drink,
as well as a Yellow Warbler. The usual birds visited also: both species of
chickadees, nuthatches, finches, siskins, Bewick's Wrens, Downy Woodpeckers,
robins, towhees. A House Sparrow, which we rarely see, even came in to take
a bath. It was an enjoyable way to have dinner and birds.
