Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday July 31. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

Postbreeding dispersals have begun with many reports during the week of
birds visiting areas where they did not breed. Several migratory flocks
have been reported also.

The two adults and the immature BLUE GROSBEAK were near Brogen July 26.
They were together near the farmhouse and not in the area where they had
been seen earlier.

The Odessa Campground OVENBIRDS were not seen during the week, but on July
24 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was in the campground area.

ELEGANT TERNS continue to be seen along the coast. A flock of 45 was at the
Chetco River Mouth at Brookings July 28, and a flock of 200 was at the
Rogue River Mouth at Gold Beach July 29.

An off shore trip July 25 found 100 FULMARS, 20 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS,
and four BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS eight and a half miles west of Tillamook
Bay. The July 26 trip out of Depoe Bay found 159 FULMARS, 41 PINK-FOOTED
SHEARWATERS, and ten ALBATROSS. Over 500 FULMARS were 14 miles west of
Alsea Bay July 30. SOOTY SHEARWATER numbers continue low off the Oregon
coast.

Juvenile LEAST and WESTERN SANDPIPERS arrived during the week. Five
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River July
30. Another was near Vale in Malheur County July 25. A third year plumaged
HERRING GULL was at the mouth of the Columbia River July 28.

Three BLACK SWIFTS were observed flying over Saddle Mountain in Clatsop
County July 23.

A female PINTAIL with five chicks was at Ankeny NWR near Salem July 18,
along with a brood of BLUE-WINGED TEAL. Many RED CROSSBILLS were in the
Cascades about Mt. Hood July 26.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was near Sutherlin July 27. Another was near
Cloverdale on the coast July 26.

Thats it for this week.
