Three of us birded the LSSP this morning on the last of our once a month bird
surveys. We had 35 species today with only one being a new bird seen for the
first time, two Black-headed Grosbeaks. Other sightings of interest were a
Green Heron, six Great Blue Herons of which three were still at the heronry,
two Spotted Sandpipers at the end of the spit at the mouth of Issaquah
Creek, a Belted Kingfisher that dove into the lake and got a small fish, a
Hairy Woodpecker, and a Yellow-rumped Warbler that was fascinated by the
window and mirror of a State Park truck. Also notable was that this was the
first time we did not record any gull species.

Our results also include an all day CBC by Richard Rowlett in Dec. 1995. He
recorded nine species that we did not observe on any of the monthly surveys.
The total species for the LSSP area was 99. We should probably continue
until we can get the 100th.
