Well Catherine maybe I can unrain your parade a little. I have a Bluebird
trail I monitor weekly in the Wenas area and while Wrens are notorious for
doing bad things I have learned to live with and enjoy them.. They truely are
a remarkable bird.
On the Bluebird trail I have two boxes of wrens with eggs in them, out of 47
boxes... Both boxes occupied by Wrens are within 25 feet of nesting Western
Bluebirds and if the past repeats they will both fledge... I have discovered
that if I destroy the Wren nest before eggs are layed, usually they don't go
on the rampage. Once the eggs are in the nest, you better leave them
undisturbed or it will incite them to go on the rampage, and yes they can be
real bad..

At my house I currently have a Wren nesting within 6 feet of a very large
feeder.. Less than 25 feet away from the Wren box is a box of 4 Chickadees
about to fledge. Last year the Chickedees also fledged with no interference
by the Wren.... As the Wrens nest approx. 3 weeks later than the
Chickadees,there eggs have already hatched by the time the Wrens arrive and
at that point in time the Chickadees are dominate. I wish Bluebirds would do
the same.. At our home we have no Bluebirds, but have at least 30 nesting
Robins, 2 pair of Kesrals nesting, several Morning Doves and Quail nesting.
2 pair of Orioles and a pair of Kingfishers also nest here without
interference from the Wren... Each year I look forward to the arrival of Ben
Wren as he has managed to behave here in Cowiche Canyon....
