Most likely the majority of bald eagle consumption of seals occurs at
pupping sites where there are miscarriages, afterbirth, and pups dead
from a variety of natural causes. However, dead adults are probably
scavenged as well. Despite this, it is difficult to conceive of
reasons for higher rates of seal consumption on Hood Canal than on
Puget Sound or in Grays Harbor.
