There has been explosion of baby birds at my backyard feeders this last week
and a half. A couple of days ago, while the male Downy was on the suet, a
young nuthatch also came to the suet. It continually begged to be fed and
finally the Downy relented. It fed the nuthatch 3 times before the nuthatch
was satisfied.
Later that day, the pair of "resident" crows started yelling and were soon
joined by the male flicker. What a racket. Upon looking outside I saw the
neighbor's cat near the deck. A few harsh words from me and it was gone and
so were the alarm calls.
A pair of American Goldfinches showed up for the first time this season. It
was a lovely sight to see the goldfinches, the downy and house finches all
feeding at the same time.
