The Washington Bird Box is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washin=
gton
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or =
to
listen to the 12 most recent messages, call (425) 454-2662 and follow the
prompts. First-time Bird Box users may find it convenient, before callin=
g,
to review the status of Washington=92s chickadee species.
The Washington Ornithological Society would like to see the BirdBox beco=
me
astatewide aid to birders. One of the reasons for this transcription is a=
s a
service to those outside the local calling area and for people living out=
side
WA who are interested for whatever reason. We would like to offer an emai=
l
transcription service to anyone with a message for the BirdBox. (The emai=
l
will be placed as a phone message as well as an error free message on the
transcription). Send your message to halop at u.washington.edu with cc to
norton360 at aol.com, subplot at u.washington.edu, chembros81 at aol.com &
cehill at u.washington.edu (the cc are in case Hal Opperman is out of town a=
nd
the only cc really necessary is to whoever is transcribing at the time yo=
u
submit the message). Those active birders and TWEETERS subscribers living
outside the (206) area are requested to let their non TWEETERS birding
friends know this service is available and to offer to post the message f=
or
them.

9:32 PM June 4 - Good evening, this is Brian Bell, (425) 485-8058. Today=
at
approximately 2:45, Michael Hobbs and I saw a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW on t=
he
east side of the ???(sounds like Wanapoe road) about 1.25 miles south of =
the
I-90 exit. The bird was singing, was a male, was perched on top of a sage
bush, and we were able to observe it and listen to it for about a minute=
and
half. Hope any one that goes looking for it finds it.

2:49 PM June 4 - This is Hugh Jennings, (425) 746-6351, in Bellevue,
Washington. I have a friend that lives a couple of blocks from the Phanto=
m
Lake Tennis Courts in Bellevue thats been reporting up to12 RED CROSSBILL=
S at
one of his sunflower seed feeders in his back yard. I finally got over t=
here
at about 2 o=92clock this afternoon and I definitely saw a pair of the RE=
D
CROSSBILLS. They said they=92ve been coming off and on and up to 12 of t=
hem.

6:05 PM June 3 - Hi, this is Brent Griffin, 329-4194, and for all you
Montlake Fill aficionados, at 5:15 today, June 3, there was a pair of WES=
TERN
KINGBIRDS, west of the main pond towards the football stadium in some bla=
ck
berry thickets with a sapling poking up through them. As well there was=
a
pair of spotted sandpiper and 5 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, males. So good luck an=
d
good birding.

5:16 PM June 3 - This is Dennis Duffy in Edmonds regarding Steve Mlodinow=
=92s
request for information on ARCTIC TERNS in Everett. I did see 2 ARCTIC T=
ERNS
on the Everett water front on May 14. They were on Jetty Island, right
between the South Marina-Anthony=92s area and Jetty Island. I did not re=
locate
them on two subsequent visits to the Everett water front. They were ther=
e
briefly. Thanks for listening, bye.

4:46 PM June 3 - Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Today there were 42 MARBLE=
D
MURRLETTS off of the Edmonds fishing pear, some at virtually point blank
range. So if you want to a get good look at this bird in breeding plumag=
e,
that seems to be the place to do it. Good luck and good birding.

10:21 AM June 3 - Hi, my name is Randy Gray and I live on the Inglewood G=
olf
Course in NE Lake Washington up in Bothell. On June 1, at about 6:45 in =
the
evening a couple of large CHUKARS walked through my yard. Thanks.

10:53 AM June 2 - This is Ed swan, (206)725-5013. On June1, there was a L=
EAST
FLYCATCHER near Moses Meadow in Okanogan county.

10:54 PM June 1 - Hi, this is Steven Mlodinow. Casey Beachel and I went t=
o
Spencer Island and also poked around the Everett Sewage ponds and Everett
waterfront today. Highlights were BANK SWALLOW and PURPLE MARTIN. Have y=
et
to find the ARCTIC TERNS that usually hang around the Everett waterfront.=
If
anyone else has located these birds it=92d be good to put that on the Bir=
d Box.
That=92s about it, good luck and good birding.

6:45 PM June 1 - Hi, this is Scott Downs, 361-7073. This weekend I was o=
ver
at the Potholes with a group of birders from Kitsap Audubon. Among notewo=
rthy
sightings was a second hand report of another birder having 2 breeding
plumage FRANKLIN=92S GULLS at Potholes Lake State Park. The bird was see=
n at
approximately 6:45 yesterday morning. When I looked today I could not fin=
d
them. Other good birds was a SOLITARY SANDPIPER at the intersection of
Frenchman Hills Road and Dodson Road, the first noted BLACK TERN in the
Potholes region this year at about 9 o=92clock this morning, and also the=
other
good bird we had was a very active pair of BURROWING OWLS, along the ???
(sounds like Masters) and Highway 26, east of Othello. Probably about 3
miles east and right at the intersection with some young if you look
carefully. Thanks, good luck and good birding.

6:46 PM May 31 - Gary Bletch, (360) 853-7203. Today there were 3
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS at Corkendale Creek(sp.?), that is in Skagit co=
unty
just west of Marble Mountain at mile post 103.

6:49 PM May 30 - Robert and Mary Denell, (206) 543-1506. Yesterday,
Thursday the 29th around 12 noon, there were a pair of RED-NECKED PHALAR=
OPES
at Three Crabs Pond near Sequim. Thank you.

10:09 PM May 29 - Dave Swane, 932-6603. Lee Barns and I just got back fr=
om a
4 day boat trip to the eastern edge of Kittitas county on the Columbia ri=
ver,
north of vantage. A long way off and difficult to get to except by boat, =
but
we had 2 sightings that I thought worthy to report on the list. First wa=
s a
first-winter YELLOW-BILLED LOON, about 4 miles up river form Crescent Bar.
The second was a likely breeding pair of ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHERS about =
a 4
mile hike up Texan Creek(sp.?), there was also a single bird sighted on t=
he
mouth of ???(sounds like Quilimine) creek. =20
