>RE: Thoughts about the Eagle and the Heron<
Hi,
I've only been reading tweeters sporadically, so I may not have the full=
context on this thread. Apologies in advance if this is too far off the
theme. The Blue Heron Marsh, located at the intersection of Peasley Cany=
on
and West Valley Rd, was significantly affected during this winter's storm=
s
with a number of nests being downed and much damage to trees. I know that=
Thais Boch, who has informally monitored this site for a number of years,=
was quite curious about how the heronry would fair this year. I've heard=
second hand (not from Thais) that nesting attempts at this heronry were
down significantly. I haven't heard any news on nesting success, but thi=
s
thread makes me wonder if a reduction in the number of herons present cou=
ld
have resulted in greater predation by eagles. I've seen eagles in the
vincinity of the heronry in past years, but I've always heard reports of
success fledging from this site.
