9:46 p.m. 06-06-97: Hello, this is Carolee Coulter. On Wednesday June
3rd, I went to Nisqually Delta. Saw a GREAT EGRET there, which is not
usual. Also saw a pair of RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS. They were nesting in a
snag right along--when you first go onto the Brown's Dike Trail, leaving
the parking lot after you go through the apple orchard and turn right
heading towards the dike trail, the snag is on the left and it's got
several holes in it. There are Starlings actually nesting in the hole
above the RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS, and we saw both parents going to and
from the hole.

Also, back in May--May 18th--I went up the Tenaeum [sp?] Creek Road and
at Knap [sp?] Flats (and there's a sign saying that it's Knap Flats), I
saw another snag, a ponderosa snag on the right side of the dirt road, in
which WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKERS were mating. The male flew into the snag,
the female flew out of the hole, they mated and flew off--so chances are,
they're raising young there now. Check it out.
