Michael Hobbs and Brian Bell report a BLACK-THROATED SPARROW
near Vantage, WA on June 4. The bird was along Wanapum road,
about 1.25 miles south of I-90, on the west side of the Columbia
River. The bird was on the east side of the raod, downslope about 75
yards. WA DeLorme 52, A1. Dan Svingen reports 4 LONG-BILLED
CURLEWS west of Grangeville, ID near Tolo Lake, just south of Fenn,
on May 28. ID DeLorme 55, C4.

A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and a singing GRAY CATBIRD were seen
by John and Marty Hirth near the intersection of Steptoe Canyon Road
and Schlee Road. Follow Rimrock Road southwest from Colton, WA
(which is along US 195, about 12 miles south of Pullman) to Steptoe
Canyon Road. WA DeLorme 57, D8.

Dick Johnson had some good sightings in northwestern Whitman Co,
WA on June 1. At Rock Lake, just north of Ewan off WA 23, were 9
CASPIAN TERNS and a male BLUE-WINGED TEAL. Take Rock Lake
Road north from Ewan to reach the lake. WA DeLorme 72, C3. Dick
had 9 BLACK-NECKED STILTS, a couple of AMERICAN AVOCETS,
WILSON'S PHALAROPES, and a few EARED GREBE near Texas Lake
too. To get to those birds, continue northwest from Ewan on WA 23
about 4 miles and turn south on Wagner Road. Go 2-3 miles to Texas
Lake Road and turn left. Follow it south to a "new" lake that crosses
and blocks the road. Dick also had 10 species of ducks in the area.
He also had 2 displaying LONG- BILLED CURLEWS at the junction of
Little Cove Road and Mail Route Road, two miles east of Texas Lake
Road. Be aware that high water blocks some roads in this area. WA
DeLorme 72, D2.

CORDILLERAN, HAMMONDS, and WILLOW FLYCATCHERS were seen
up Lickfork Road southwest of Asotin, WA on June 1 by John and
Marty Hirth. From Asotin, follow Asotin Creek Road. A good 15 miles
up Asotin Creek, veer right onto Lickfork Road. Farther up Lickfork,
the Hirths spied 8 TURKEY VULTURES near the guard station. WA
DeLorme 43, B6.

The remainder of this weeks sightings are by Dan Svingen and are
from the McCall, ID area. The Svingens report a male THREE-TOED
WOODPECKER along Lick Creek Road. From downtown McCall, follow
the signs to Ponderosa State Park and Lick Creek Road. At the
flashing yellow light, turn right onto Lick Creek and in 2.8 miles park in
the pull-out on the right (south). A narrow dirt road on the left (north)
side of Lick Creek Road leads into the woods where the woodpecker
was. Further along Lick Creek, they saw a NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH 0.3 mile east of Tyee Creek. Back at Ponderosa State
Park in McCall, Dan and Ila had a WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER at the
Lily Marsh bridge. ID DeLorme 43, A4.

Just south of McCall, at Donnelly, the Svingens saw 1 or 2
BOBOLINKS near the intersection of East Roseberry Road and Farm To
Market Road, about 1.5 miles east of Donnelly. ID DeLorme 43, B4.

MerryLynn Denny saw a single RED-NECKED GREBE today, June 6,
just above Ice Harbor Dam on the Walla Walla Co., WA side. Ice
Harbor Dam is accessed off WA 124, just a few miles east of Pasco,
WA. WA DeLorme 40, CB1.
