side of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. An EASTERN KINGBIRD was along the
Boundary Bay dike between 64th and 17A. A dozen Western Sandpipers in
breeding plumage and a dozen DUNLIN, also in breeding plumage, were at the
foot of 96th.

Sightings for Sunday June 8

RARE BIRD ALERT. A CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was located this morning singing
in a woodlot north of University Hill Elementary School on Acadian Rd. in
the U.B.C. area. It was present from 9a.m. till about 2p.m. A
Black-and-white Warbler was also heard singing near this location.

A SOOTY SHEARWATER was seen from the end of the Iona South Jetty this
evening. 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were with CANADA GEESE on the Iona
causeway and 3 male CANVSABACK were off the causeway. A WESTERN KINGBIRD
was in the old subdivision on Sea Island.

A BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was seen at Wreck Beach. Previous sightings of this
bird in the checklist area have turned out to be escaped birds, so this
sighting is also suspect.

2 PURPLE MARTINS and 10 CASPIAN TERNS were at Blackie Spit.

Sightings for Saturday, June 7th

On a VNHS field trip to Colony Farm it was discovered the WESTERN KINGBIRDS
are again nesting. They have constructed a nest on the first tower west of

along the north dike was a CHIPPING SPARROW. Other birds of note were
RING-NECKED DUCK and CINNAMON TEAL.

Two TURKEY VULTURES were seen soaring over the Polo Fields near 176th & 8th
in south Surrey.

In the Ridge meadows area were 6 SANDHILL CRANE, several GRAY CATBIRDS, 5
