You just never know what you are going to see while out birding. While
doing census work for the USFWS in the backyard of Anchorage, AK on Fort
Richardson, we were heading back in from a mornings work. As we rounded
a bend in the trail, ahead I saw a very large animal, black in color and
looking every bit the part of a wolf. The wolf was off the trail and
into the thick alders in a heart beat, but what a thrilling heart beat
it was. Having lived in Alaska for six years, I had yet to see this
elusive creature until yesterday

Wolves, Black Bear, Grizzly Bear, Coyotes, Fox, and Moose make their
home in close proximity to Anchorage. Often, sightings of all these
animals are reported throughout the year - and provide a nice addition
to the birds.

Just thought I'd share my good fortune....
