Sightings for Thursday June 12

An ARCTIC TERN in breeding plumage was observed for about an hour this
morning on a log in the Pitt River at the N end of Harris Road. Also seen
in the area were EASTERN KINGBIRDS and 2 GREY CATBIRDS.

Colony Farm had 1 male LAZULI BUNTING and WESTERN KINGBIRDS nesting on the
first tower. A PACIFIC LOON and 8 COMMON LOONS were off the south jetty at
Iona and 3 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS were on the inner
ponds.

An EASTERN KINGBIRD, a BARN OWL and a TURKEY VULTURE in over flight were
seen in the Cora Brown subdivision on sea island. A SEMIPALMATED PLOVER,
DUNLIN, WESTERN SANDPIPERS and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were at the foot of
96th on Boundary bay.

In an unusual sighting 16 TURKEY VULTURES were roosting in a tree at 206th
street and 128 Ave. in Maple Ridge.

Sightings for Wednesday June 11

A WESTERN SCREECH-OWL and a PILEATED WOODPECKER with 2 newly fledged young
were near the nature hut at Burnaby Lake.

A RED-THROATED LOON in breeding plumage was off Jericho Beach and 2
immature male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were at the west end of the west
pond. A VIRGINIA RAIL was N of the gravel parking lot at Boundary Bay
regional park and the hybrid lazuli/indigo bunting was still at InterRiver
park in N van.

A MERLIN is nesting in the 2500 block of 152nd street in White Rock.

In late reports for Tuesday, 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES were in the woodlot 1 km
south of Grant Narrows. A GREY CATBIRD was at calling at the beginning of
the nature trail. Along the nature trail were 2 BULLOCK'S ORIOLES, 2
EASTERN KINGBIRDS, a TURKEY VULTURE and a GREAT HORNED OWL. 4 PURPLE
MARTINS were at Rocky Point in Port Moody.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK, 4 OSPREY, a GREEN HERON and a PEREGRINE FALCON were at
Debouville Slough in Coquitlam.

Sightings for Tuesday June 10

7 BRANDT, including two banded birds, were in the small marsh north of the
tollbooths at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal. Over 100 CASPIAN TERNS were
also at this location. A YELLOW-BILLED LOON in first summer plumage was
far offshore at Crescent Beach. Also seen were 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS and
2 OLDSQUAW. A WHIMBREL was on the north side of the Nicomeckel river.

In a late report for Monday, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, a
WILSON'S PHALAROPE and a BANK SWALLOW were on the SW pond at Iona. A
WESTERN KINGBIRD was on the Iona Causeway.
