I was one who used Birdbase on a Mac with a windows emulation. It took 26
hours for the computer to put all the dates in order (they will be out of
order if you put them in out of order or if you do any corrections etc etc).
I had 60,000 entries at the time. My nephew gave me a new IBM type. On it it
runs a new chronological file in about a minute. Asking for lists such as
birds seen in a county or state took a long time also. Now the pages come out
as fast as I can click the button.
Birdbase and Birdarea are great programs but VERY slow on a Mac.
Incidentally, Robert Eisberg has a web page and as an inducement to try
out Bird Area he will send you any desired list - state or country. It will
print out great trip checklists with a space for 10 days or for 20 days. I
got a free copy of Bird Area for having the most entries in Birdbase but am
still unsure of how to surf the internet.. The web address is:
