Tweets,
Robert Eisberg of Birbase reads Tweeters. He would like me to clarify
just what I was using. I was using on a low end Power Mac the Soft Windows
Version 2.0 which emulated Windows Version 3.1. The new Windows Version 3.0
which emulates Windows 95 is said to be much faster and the program should be
only 2 to 3 times slower (according to a revew article he read in a computer
magazine). Of course the large amount on entries also slowed it up. My
original message is below except that I have changed the web address so the
slashs are correct.
>"I was one who used Birdbase on a Mac with a windows emulation. It
took 26 hours for the computer to put all the dates in order (they will be
out of order if you put them in out of order or if you do any corrections etc
etc). I had 60,000 entries at the time. My nephew gave me a new IBM type. On
it it runs a new chronological file in about a minute. Asking for lists such
as birds seen in a county or state took a long time also. Now the pages come
out as fast as I can click the button.
Birdbase and Birdarea are great programs but VERY slow on a Mac.
Incidentally, Robert Eisberg has a web page and as an inducement to try
out Bird Area he will send you any desired list - state or country. It will
print out great trip checklists with a space for 10 days or for 20 days. I
got a free copy of Bird Area for having the most entries in Birdbase but am
still unsure of how to surf the internet.. The web address is:
