Columbia Estuary Report -06/17/97

I went to check on the condition of the COMMON MURRE colonies at
Ecola State Park this afternoon. The Chapman Point group seems
healthy enough. Only one dead adult on the beach (and it was several
days old.) I had difficulty finding PIGEON GUILLEMOTS, however
(only one pair)

Two male HARLEQUIN DUCKS were at Ecola Point as was a RED-THROATED
LOON. A BALD EAGLE and a PEREGRIN FALCON were at Ecola as well.

We saw many TUFTED PUFFINS around Haystack Rock. The grass is very
high, so birds sitting at their burrows were not seen, but there
seemed to be expected numbers flying in and out.
