Wednesday Jetty Count for
the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
18 June 1997 0900hr to 1000hr

Tide: incoming
Weather: Overcast with intermittant light showers
Wind West at 15mph; Temp 55F

Method: One hour (timed) station count 100m west of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes: The SOOTY SHEARWATER appeared at the head of a small squall
at about 0930hr. All PACIFIC LOONS were count within a 15min period
immediately after this squall (~0935 to 0950). Almost all of the
COMMON MURRES were heading North (<20 were heading other directions.)
The SURFBIRDS were in worn alternate plumage.
