I had a similar experience here in Moscow, ID. While bird-sitting for a
friend, I saw a strange ground bird approach the feeder and eat the
cracked corn intended for the pheasants. A flip through the guides got me
my answer: it was a bobwhite. However, it perplexed me for some time.
The other day, I was looking through a guidebook and came across one of
those little maps--sure enough there are some spots in the NW where
bobwhites hang out. It seems that they must've been introduced; anyone
know for certain?
