I have been doing some research (if you call websurfing NOAA databases
research) on El Nino/Southern Oscillations and found a cool graph stretching
back to 1950. I have modified this graph, identified the official El Nino
and La Nina events and added OBRC records of selected seabird species.

What I find most fascinating is that only Elegant Tern is strongly
correlated to El Nino. Mottled Petrel most regularly in La Nina years
(sort of) and most other "target" species are centered around these events,
but not in any absolute way.
