Good thing then that they're native. Prunus virginiana, Common Choke
Cherry, along with all the recognized varieties, is the most widespread
and common native tree/shrub on the continent. It's hardy, generally
rabbit-proof, often Microtus-proof, dense, fast-growing, fruit-producing,
grows well when untouched by human hand, and also can be quite
drought-tolerant. If you're lucky, you might even get one that has maroon
foliage... An outstanding native for wildlife planting in the
intermountain west.
