This will be the 23rd annual North Am. Butterfly Association(NABA)/Xerces
4th of July Butterfly Count. Starting in 1975 with only 29 counts in the
US, there are now more than 310 counts throughout Canada, US, and Mexico.

The count is organized similarly to the Christmas Bird Count.
Volunteers across North America select a count area within a 15 mile
diameter circle, conduct a census of species observed on one day within
2 weeks of July 4th, and report the results to NABA which organizes the
data and publishes it annually.

We have conducted a count centered near Fall City for the last 6 years and
would like to invite anyone interested in butterflies to join us. We've
chosen Sunday July 6 this year. Drop me a line for details if you are
interested in participating in the Fall City count.
