The Washington BirdBox is a voice mailbox sponsored by the Washington
Ornithological Society. To leave a message about a notable sighting, or
to
listen to the 12 most recent messages, call (425) 454-2662 and follow the
prompts. First-time BirdBox users may find it convenient, before
calling,
to review the status of Washington's chickadee species.

1:16 p.m. 06-25-97: Hi, this is Bridget Hooks, home phone 206-722-6153.
We were birding Seward Park. I'm not very good at identifying
hummingbirds that sit way up high in the tree where they only cast a
shadow against the sky. I was sure it was a BLACK-CHINNED [HUMMINGBIRD]
until I saw the report in the Sunday newspaper that said Black-chinned
only exists in eastern Washington. I'm wondering if anyone else is
birding Seward that could take a look at it. It's on that road on the
east side of the park that connects the short spur road that connects the
upper with the lower, and he sits up in the tree very reliably every
evening. We've been seeing him there for about a month now.

7:05 p.m. 06-25-97: Hi, this is Neal Komedal, 206-723-4444. Today,
Wednesday June 25th, at about 5 o'clock, we saw a BARRED OWL in Seward
Park. That was where the upper trail takes a turn to the right as you're
heading north. There's a little social trial that goes down the hill
there, and that owl was sitting right on the trail low down in the vine
maple or something. It stayed there for as long as we stayed there.
Thanks. Bye.
