I had my first ever Common Nighthawk sighting west of the Cascades today. I
was working in my yard, and among the noisy sparrows, starlings,
woodpeckers, chickadees, grosbeaks, waxwings, etc, etc, I heard the familiar
"peent" call repeated a few times. I looked up and spotted a bird flying
about tree top level a block north. It flew eratically, swooping, darting,
changing speed in a way very different from any of the "usual" birds around
my house. It never came any closer but I felt sure I was watching a Common
Nighthawk.

What a great bird.
