Hi Tweeters,
When I read Michael Price's post on birds heard at night while not sleeping
(!), I had to report on the one I heard during one of my many night
awakenings. Out the bathroom window, 3:30 AM, I fuzzily became aware of a
regular sound: HOO-HOO, HOO . I started timing the hoots, finding that
they came in this regular batch of 3 at ten-second intervals. This went on
for 4-5 minutes, and then stopped. I also heard a Mockingbird in the
distance, but I had never heard owl hoots like these. Anyone know what owl
could have been making them ? I'm at 1600 feet, mixed deciduous trees (I
think the owl may have been in the top of my big silver maple, I wasn't
EVEN going to try to go out and find it at 3:30 in the morning). Any IDeas
?
